Adam Sandler makes stop at Montrose brunch restaurant

Adam Sandler, the actor known for his recent smash hit film Uncut Gems and comedies like Happy Gilmore, apparently made a visit to Montrose-area brunch spot Harry’s on Tuesday. The restaurant posted a socially-distant photo of the actor, who was wearing a face mask, along with a thank you for visiting to Facebook.

Harry’s, at 318 Tuam Street, is known for its Mediterranean-inspired breakfasts and unfussy lunches. It’s unclear why Sandler was in town, but he’s been spotted at Houston restaurants before. In 2018, he made a stop at Americas River Oaks, and in 2017 a Reddit poster caught him playing basketball at a gym in Sugar Land.

New Midtown nightclub with retractable roof to open above Reef space

An ambitious new nightclub project slated to open later this year will have a retractable roof and “walk of fame” dedicated to iconic musicians, CultureMap reports. Rise will go into the space formerly occupied by rooftop lounge Proof, at 2600 Travis Street. That’s the spot above Chef Bryan Caswell’s now-shuttered Reef. The new nightclub will boast a $1 million retractable roof, which the owner says is the largest in North America outside of a sports arena. A walk of fame at the entrance will pay homage to deceased musicians, including DJ Screw, and the spot will boast three bars, each with the theme of sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Kolache Shoppe celebrates 50th anniversary

Kolache Shoppe, which first opened on Richmond Avenue in 1970, is celebrating its 50th birthday this year with a 50-cent deal on one of Houston’s favorite breakfast foods, according to the Houston Chronicle. Known for its hand-crafted pastries stuffed with all manner of filling, from brisket to eggs and cheese to Nutella to peach jelly, the iconic Houston shop will offer 50-cent kolaches on the first Wednesday of each month at its Heights location, at 1031 Heights Boulevard. Each month will feature a new specialty flavor. The deal runs through the end of the year, while supplies last.
