Find breakfast pastries in the morning and duck confit pizza for dinner at White Elm Cafe Bakery
A new bakery and cafe with an impressive Houston restaurant pedigree will open tomorrow on West Memorial. White Elm Café Bakery, at 14079 Memorial Drive, will serve breakfast pastries and bread baked in-house, Greek-inspired lunches and dinners and brunch on the weekends.
The restaurant is the work of a number of Houston industry veterans. Tasos Katsaounis, owner of Bread Man Baking, will run the on-site bakery, where he’ll make sweet and savory pastries alongside Greek specialties inspired by foods he ate as a child. Chez Nous owners Scott and Stacy Simonson have developed the restaurant’s dining menu, which focuses on French and Mediterranean dishes like charred octopus and duck confit pizza. The Simonsons and Katsaounis will be joined by Chico Ramirez, whose company Dinner Table Investments cofounded Houston restaurant Field and Tides and Cajun spot The Boot.
The kitchen staff is rounded out by executive pastry chef Jamie Orlacchio, formerly of La Table, Etoile Cuisine et Bar and Brasserie du Parc; and chef Jesus Salinas, previously at Liberty Kitchen and Field and Tides.
In addition to the on-site bakery, which will include a walk-up take-out counter, the restaurant will also house a small grocery store selling multiple styles of bread made fresh daily, and a full-service cafe with an outdoor patio. The menu includes vegan and vegetarian dishes alongside cold-pressed juices., and the bar features craft beer and French wine.
When it debuts this week, White Elm Café Bakery will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
